PeoplesChoice Credit Union Supports Charitable Partner Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community at Maine Red Claws Game

The Portland Expo was the backdrop for PeoplesChoice Credit Union Night at the Maine Red Claws D-League basketball game on Friday, January 28th. In keeping with PeoplesChoice ongoing goal of community involvement, over $500 was raised through a 50/50 raffle for participating charitable partner, Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community (MCWWC).

“It’s always been an important mission for us to give back to the communities where our members work and live,” says PeoplesChoice Vice President Eric Green.  “Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community is a fantastic, well-deserving organization.” He adds.

Jointly, Eric Green and MCWWC Director Carolyn May delivered the game ball to center court.

Three Maine School Districts to Benefit from $600,000 in Education Reform Awards

Grants from Nellie Mae Education Foundation will support efforts to put students at the center of learning 

Portland/North Berwick/Sanford, Maine – In an effort to prepare all of New England’s learners with the skills and knowledge they need for full participation in postsecondary education, work and life, the Nellie Mae Education Foundation promotes the integration of Student-Centered Learning across the region. Jobs for Maine’s Graduates (for work that will be done in partnership with Portland Public Schools), Maine School Administrative District #60 in North Berwick, and the Sanford School Department have each been selected to receive one-year, $200,000 planning grants from the Foundation.

"Meet Your Farmers and Fishermen" and get your share of the Maine harvest at a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and Fisheries (CSF) Fair in your community on Sunday, February 27th.

With CSA's and CSF's you commit to purchasing a share of the coming harvest before the season begins. The benefit? You get to support local farms and fishermen while getting your locally grown and harvested food direct from the producer at a fair price.

Come to one of the eleven fair locations statewide to: learn about buying a share; become acquainted with local seasonal foods; meet your local farmers and fishermen; and discover how you can grow a relationship with them. Community Supported Fisheries may not be represented in all locations.

"Meet Your Farmers and Fishermen: a celebration of Community Supported Agriculture and Fisheries" will take place on Sunday, February 27, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA) Annual Forecast Conference, which each year attracts more than 500 attendees from around the state, will be held this year on Thursday, January 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn By the Bay, 88 Spring Street, Portland, ME.

Lebanon Rescue collects over 850 coats and snow suits to help area children and young adults.

Lebanon Rescue Chief Samantha Cole would like to thank all of the residents who donated coats to the annual coat drive, which saw the largest year of donations ever!

Rescue members delivered the last 4 shopping carts full of bags of coats and snow suits on December 31st, 2010 to the Sanford Hannaford.

Lebanon Rescue had one of the largest single group donations of coats and snow suits for this years coats for kids program. We brought nearly 50 large  full of 857 coats and snow suits!! Lebanon has collected over 1,500 coats in the past few years! Great job Lebanon!

Chief Samantha Cole would like to thank Town Librarian Jennifer Griffin and Recreation Director Jess Brewington who gathered many bags of coats and snow suits from the clothing pantry.
