Cat rescued from South Berwick storm drain

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Crews in South Berwick rescued a cat trapped in a storm drain grate Thursday morning.

Police say Boots the cat was caught in the grate on Highland Avenue when a passerby noticed her. The highway department was called and workers had to chip away ice over part of the grate before they could lift it -- and the cat -- out of the drain.

Officials say Boots was taken to a vet where she was sedated and separated from the grate. She was ready for some food shortly after the sedation wore off.

Boots is expected to make a complete recovery.
