Scarborough, Maine—Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will be recognizing its many volunteers at special luncheon events during National Volunteer Week. Nine volunteers will be honored for 20 or more years of service. According to Ken Murray, Volunteer Manager at SMAA, more than 1,300 volunteers have been invited. Of those, more than 400 SMAA volunteers deliver Meals on Wheels.  Guests will include RSVP volunteers placed in non-profits and healthcare facilities in York and Cumberland counties through a SMAA program founded in 1972.

Volunteers also counsel seniors about their Medicare and health insurance needs, teach classes to support better health, tutor children in schools and perform many other services to help local communities stretch their capacity to serve the people of southern Maine.
