Willard School Students See Math in their Future

Sanford, Maine – On Tuesday, March 8th, 2011, Willard School in Sanford will welcome 30 members of the surrounding community to the school’s first annual Math Fair.  Each community member will be paired with a Willard educator and will share the various ways mathematics is used in their field on a daily basis.
In an effort to engage students at the 4th - 6th grade school in their math education, Willard School has reached out to people in and around the Sanford community in the hope that students will see that math education has a real purpose.  Students sometimes ask “when am I ever going to need to use this?”  Willard teachers think members of the workforce will be able to help students realize the answer to that question.

Sanford Concert - Touring Ensemble of the Maine Gay Men's Chorus

The 7-voice Touring Ensemble of the Maine Gay Men’s Chorus (MGMC) will present New Day, a concert of songs from the heart combining musical themes ranging from the Renaissance to today’s boy bands, rich a cappella singing, original songs and arrangements, and accompaniment on guitar, bass, keyboard, and violin. Hear what people are saying about our Maine tour: “I was mesmerized by the euphoric sense of joy inside me.” “ Ear candy.” “Powerful, moving, and fun.”

The ensemble desires to give back to its host audience: admission by donation will be split between the Touring Ensemble and the host Church (suggested donation $10). The ensemble will also hold a 50/50 raffle for those who wish to participate, and MGMC's Music CDs will be available for purchase. On March 12th at 7pm support both the UU Church of Sanford (5 Lebanon St., Sanford, ME) and Maine’s only gay-identified chorus (founded 1992), and experience a fun-filled evening of music from the heart.
